GENERAL INFORMATION
DANCE AND MUSIC FESTIVAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
The Dance and Music Festival held annually in eastern Idaho is seeking 60 volunteers to carry flags for the Parade of Nations and the Gala Performances during the week of August 2-7, 2010.
Community members who are 14 years of age or older can participate. Each participant will be carrying a flag of a nation who has participated over the past 25 years. The participants will not be dancing in either performance. Dress is casual.
Parade of Nations participants will be needed on August 2 from 5-7:30pm on Main Street in Rexburg. The Gala Performance participants are needed on August 6 and 7 from 6:30-9:30pm in the Hart Gymnasium on BYU-Idaho’s campus. All participants will receive a free admission to either Gala Performance. Participants can help volunteer in any or all events.

“DRIVE-A-ROUND” GOLF CARD
The "Drive -A - Round Eastern Idaho” Golf Discount Card sponsored by the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce is now available. If you are a golfer or know a golfer that would like to save money all summer long, call the Chamber at 208 356 5700.
Cards offer discounts at courses throughout the Upper Valley including Teton Lakes, Rexburg Municipal, Fremont County, Jefferson Hills, Island Park Village Resort, and The Links at Teton Peaks. Cards are available for $20 with savings of more than that just for the two courses here in Rexburg if these were the only two you played. For more information contact the chamber office 356-5700.
REXBURG: CONCERTS IN SMITH PARK
The Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce will host its weekly “Concerts In Smith Park” Performances this summer. They’re free and scheduled every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 17th thru August 19th.
HOST YOUR OWN SUMMERTIME BLOCK PARTY
Madison CARES is offering funding for Madison County residents to host a summertime block party in your neighborhood. The block parties will take a few minutes to talk about youth drug and alcohol problems. Pick up an application at the Rexburg Police Department or Madison County Sheriffs’ Office. MADISON DISTRICT LIBRARY
Rocky Mountain Discussions
A series of discussions is scheduled in connection with Madison Library District’s adult summer reading program. This year’s adult summer reading will take participants vicariously down the three thousand miles of the Rocky Mountains as they read books of their choosing. A series of Tuesday night discussions will focus on interesting sights along the highlighted section of the “trail” and discuss books, both fiction and non-fiction, related to the area. Discussions will begin at 6:30 at the library.
8-31 Book Discussion: Gloryland by Shelton Johnson
Discussions are being held simultaneously with the library’s “Close Knit Community” meeting. No crafting is required to attend, nor is attendance limited to those who have signed up for adult summer reading. Everyone with interest in the topics is encouraged to join.
ASHTON VISITOR CENTER
The Ashton Visitor Center will be open 7 days a week through the summer (beginning May 27th). It will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The Idaho International Dance and Music Festival is holding a Quilt Raffle drawing Monday at 8 p.m. Chances are $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20 at the Chamber office on Main Street in Rexburg.

The Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a community tour of the INL on Tuesday, August 24, 2010.
You must sign up at the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce office by Tuesday, August 17, 2010.
You must be at least 16 years old to go. We will need your name, and for you to state that you are a citizen of the United States, your birth date and your Social Security number by Tuesday, August 17th.
You must wear long pants (ladies too) and shoes that cover your whole foot (no sandals or slip-ons). You need to wear cotton or mostly cotton clothing. There will be about 2 miles of walking on the tour.
You will be able to eat lunch at the INL for $7.00-$10.00 or you may bring your own lunch. The chamber will provide cold bottles of water for the bus ride.
The INL will provide one of their big busses for our tour. The bus holds 32 people so it will be first come first serve.
There will be a tour guide on the bus as well as at the site. You will also have fun with your friends and neighbors from this area.

MADISON DISTRICT LIBRARY PHOTO CONTEST
Members of the Idaho library community will have the opportunity to take part in an upcoming Madison Library District Photography Contest. The photo contest will be part of the library’s Grand Opening celebration which will be held in September.
Participants may enter the contest by submitting photos related to the theme “A Picture to Build a Dream On.” Participants may enter up to three photos. Photos must be submitted as an 8 x 10 print. Photos can be black-and-white or color, shot with a digital camera or with conventional film.
Entries will be judged in categories based on the age of the participant. Additionally, a Grand Prize winner and two runners-up will be decided among the entire body of entrants. The winners will be announced at the Grand Opening celebration in September, and entries will be displayed throughout the new Madison Library District building.
The contest is open to any amateur photographer who would be eligible to obtain a Madison Library District card. Participants under the age of 18 must have signed consent from their legal guardian. Photographers who earn more than 50% of their income from photography are not eligible to enter.
Photo contest entry packets can be picked up at the Madison Library District, 73 North Center, Rexburg; or at the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce, 127 East Main Street, Rexburg. Entries may be submitted at either of the previously stated locations. Entries must be received by August 28, 2010.
